We're Gonna Need a Montage (Montage!)

A full update to go up later, but for now: 40 inspiring speeches in two minutes.

Video found via First Showing, originally written about by TIME.

Reminds me of the great campaign from AMC to advertise their movies in 2007 and 2008 (see below). I think both these videos show how a well-cut montage can invoke the same emotions the viewer feels when watching the orignal material as well as something entirely new. By puzzling together clips from different movies, you can tell a new story that builds on the great stories behind you. AMC has done this through it's monthly promos: not only do they advertise the movies they will show that month, they have re-branded the cable network as the place to go for "new classics" that make you feel good. I think that is a very powerful tool to have as an advertiser and a PR professional.

Glitch or Godly?

Found via Brandflakes for Breakfast. EA games responds to a video by Tiger Woods 09 fan Levinator25. Levinator25 discovered that a glitch in the game allows Mr. Woods to walk on water. In this funny response, EA Games ensures users that it's not a glitch at all.

This is a great example of how companies can engage their users and have fun. nicely done, EA.

In Honor of Moms

I love my mom, even though she doesn't read my blog anymore ("I don't have time to read your internet journal, Missy. You call me everyday anyway, so you can just tell me what you want to say then!").

Four year ago, my mom went back to work, and she has been balancing her job, home and my little brother and his dog ever since. She's an artist, too, and her artwork adorns the walls of our home. Everything she does, she does for my sister, brother and I. I really admire her, and I hope one day, I will be as awesome as she is.

In honor of my mom, I have two links for you. The first, Postcards from Yo Momma, has been featured on here before. The blog is a collection of the best Momisms sent through the web.

The second is a video of a short film by John Roberts and Clay Weiner. It's about Mother's Day from the perspective of a New Jersey/Long Island mom. My mom has never quite been like this, but the character is very familiar. ;)

I tease my Long Island mom because I love her, brash wisdom, Momisms and all!

Dance Battle

I have to admit: dance movies and TV shows are my guilty pleasure. From Fame to So You Think you Can Dance? to Step Up 2: The Streets, I can't get enough of them. So, imagine my delight when Ben at No Ordinary Rollercoaster linked an epic dance battle between none other than Moose from Step Up 2: The Streets and my favorite teen pop star Miley Cyrus.

Miley's response.

Moose strikes back, with guest dancers, in the most amazing sequence yet.

Visit Ben's blog for his commentary. I love it.

Bid on Some Nice Big Jugs?

I found this video through Brandflakes for Breakfast. An eBay seller uses YouTube to publish a video for several items he has for auction. The video is cute (G-rated, of course), and a fun example of creatively using web tools to sell your product.

I am sure many copycats will follow, and I look forward to the best of them. In the meantime, I am too busy humming that catchy-little tune.

Joy Nash

I meant to post about this last semester. A thread at VaginaPagina reminded me this morning. Better late than never!

Joy Nash is absolutely hilarious. Her video, "A Fat Rant," hit the web over a year ago. The second video, "Confessions of the Compulsive," was released last October. In the series, Nash mercilessly reproaches the fashion industry and the societal idea of fat vs. thin.

Nash is fat and gorgeous, and she is also amazingly intelligent and witty. The popularity of the Fat Rant videos have made her something of a web icon. You can find an entire library of spot-on comedy at her YouTube account. This is what I love about YouTube. Someone give this girl a television series.
